Genomics, and precision health approaches such as big data science and machine learning have emerged as important tools for public health. Those entering the public health and medical workforces must keep pace with these evolving fields to maximize the benefit to public health. Recognizing this need, ORISE is partnering with the Office of Genomics and Precision Public Health at the CDC to offer a two-day enrichment event covering the latest developments in these fields. The course is a series of 15-60 minute lectures, grouped by topic, with learning objectives for each lecture.

It features panelists who discuss how they envision their health agency benefiting from TEFCA and how they are preparing to participate. You will also learn more about the legal and policy considerations around TEFCA.

The questions included in this FAQ were collected from the ASTHO Connects session, “TEFCA Overview and Perspectives from the Field” held on April 4, 2024 and follow-on questions from the session, as well as the ONC and CDC’s TEFCA Community of Practice. This presentation provides an overview of the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) which has the overall goal to establish a floor of universal interoperability across the country. The Common Agreement will establish the infrastructure model and the governing approach for users in different networks to securely share basic clinical information with each other—all under commonly agreed-to expectations and rules.
